Kitchen Remodeling With No VOCs – Boston, MA

Joseph Coupal - Wednesday, February 19, 2014

A kitchen remodel can do more than just improve the look and feel of your kitchen, when done right, it also can improve your indoor air quality. Air quality is an important factor, especially during the winter months when homes are sealed up tight against the cold outdoor air.

Carpeting, paint and even the materials used in your shower might contain harmful Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs).

New technology has helped home improvement with products that don’t contain VOCs. So, as you plan your remodeling project, be sure to use these products to help keep the air in your home cleaner.

The kitchen: You may never have thought your kitchen cabinets have the potential to pollute the air inside your home. But if you are looking at new cabinets that are made from a plastic-based material, or painted or varnished, there’s a chance the cabinets are producing VOCs. Wood cabinets look great in kitchens, and you can choose cabinet refinishing or cabinet refacing as a better, greener option that uses finishes without VOCs. Older cabinets are more likely to be made from wood as well.

The walls: A fresh coat of paint is the first element when planning a room design. Choosing the perfect color and knowing if a primer coat is needed are just two decisions that need to be made when picking a brand.

The bathroom: Usually one of the smallest rooms in the home, it’s more important to make certain the airspace has good quality. Upgrade your shower with a unit made of modular panels that are lightweight and interlock securely.

Refinishing Kitchen Cabinets Gives you a β€œNew” Kitchen for Less – Newton, Weston, Brookline

Joseph Coupal - Wednesday, February 12, 2014

Many homeowners dream of giving their kitchens a full-scale remodel. Though such a project can give a kitchen an entirely new look, that look does not come cheap. On a major kitchen remodel, homeowners can expect to spend more than $53,000. So while the idea of a full-scale kitchen remodel might be a dream project, the cost of such an undertaking is beyond many homeowners' budgets.

But homeowners who cannot afford a full kitchen remodel can still give their kitchens a new look and can do so for relatively little money. Refinishing kitchen cabinets in a new color, by giving fading cabinets a fresh face can instantly add life to a kitchen, giving the room an entirely different feel without breaking the bank.

Cabinet refinishing is a great way to save some money and still have a beautiful or elite looking kitchen. The cost can be lower if your cabinets and doors are in good shape.  Decorative possibilities for your cabinets are almost endless. Many decorative effects can be achieved during any cabinet refinishing project with paint or stain.

Refinishing kitchen cabinets significantly increases the value of your home. But best of all the process is painless. The average actual time spent in your kitchen is 3 - 4 days with minimal interruption to your normal home life. And, at Kenneth C. Lewis, we use the most durable commercial grade lacquer on the market.
