Kitchen Cabinet Refacing is Best Option for Apartment and Property Owners

Joseph Coupal - Wednesday, November 28, 2012

As a result of the surging rental market,  multifamily apartment owners and property managers in Barrington, RI and across RI and MA have begun remodeling and upgrading their properties to compete against a surge of new apartment complexes.

Rather than gut the kitchens, they have chosen an easier, effective and less expensive route, repairing the existing cabinets and installing new drawers, cabinet doors and hardware. The process is making the kitchens look brand new while saving thousands per unit, and residents are able to stay in their homes during the two-day process.

There is a lot of potential for apartment managers to benefit from using cabinet refacing and cabinet refinishing rather than replacing the kitchen cabinets in every unit.

Kenneth C. Lewis specializes in kitchen cabinet refacing -- a much less expensive alternative that makes a beautiful kitchen more affordable.

An Old Kitchens Can be New Again

Joseph Coupal - Wednesday, November 21, 2012

Everything old is new again. There is a trend of reusing items in the home and/or installing reclaimed items. People are looking to save money wherever they can. Not replacing everything with new material can sometimes make perfect sense. Besides the environmental benefits, some reclaimed wood, such as pine, comes from old-growth trees that were denser.

Resurfacing the existing kitchen cabinets with new or reclaimed wood can save money and time. The new face can add character, richness and look like a brand new kitchen. The average actual time that Kenneth C. Lewis spends in your kitchen is 3 - 4 days!

If after the Thanksgiving holiday, you decide your kitchen needs a facelift, and you want it ready for the December holidays, contact Kenneth C. Lewis.

Time to Remodel the Kitchen

Joseph Coupal - Wednesday, November 14, 2012

The past few months have shown plenty of signs the housing market is recovering, but spending on home remodeling projects is accelerating as well.

Strong growth in sales of existing homes and housing starts, along with historically low financing costs, make for an upturn in home remodeling activity.

Not only is this good news for the economy, it's great news for those with outdated kitchen cabinets, sub-par countertops and linoleum floors. Consider this news your green light to finally upgrade your kitchen.
Consider the Costs

When determining whether to start kitchen remodeling, make sure you're scaling it to your budget and your available time. There's nothing fun about a partially completed remodel because you ran out of time or money, unless you're looking for an excuse to microwave all your meals.

If you choose to remodel the kitchen, know that many experts say a modest kitchen remodel offers a higher level of return on investment than most other home improvement projects.  According to Remodeling Magazine's 2011-2022 Cost vs. Value Report, a kitchen remodel has an average of 65.7-72.1% return on investment when you sell your home.

If the increased popularity of cooking programs and home improvement television shows is any indicator, the kitchen is rapidly becoming the focal point of not only homebuyers, but also homeowners. It seems an increasing number of homes hitting the market have more cash sunk into the kitchen than other rooms in the house.

Kitchen Renovation Q&A

Joseph Coupal - Wednesday, November 07, 2012

Have you put off that kitchen renovation project long enough? Here are some questions and answers concerning a budget wise kitchen remodel.

Q: What are some ways to improve a kitchen, without a huge remodel?

A: Your kitchen is still functional, just unattractive or out-of-date. Everything still works, but is ugly and old. To brighten up a kitchen, paint it and change the light fixtures. Or consider under cabinet lighting and a backsplash. Refinishing or refacing cabinets is another economical idea that rejuvenates the kitchen and takes much less time and money than replacing the cabinets.

Q: Is it possible to replace the kitchen cabinets without replacing the countertop?

A: Refacing cabinets doesn’t result in big changes to size or layout. If you like your countertop, refacing the cabinets may be the way to go. You will get new doors and drawers installed and a matching veneer on the exposed sides of cabinets.

Q: Do you have tips to make a kitchen eco-friendly without denting the budget too badly?

A: Eco-friendly kitchen remodeling does not have to be more expensive. In fact, reusing the same cabinets is a greener alternative than replacing them, and it is far less expensive. When refinishing cabinets, using a green certified paint or stain is also an alternative. With countertops – granite is a stone, which is a green material.

5 Easy Kitchen Updates From Angie's List

Joseph Coupal - Thursday, November 01, 2012

November is here and now you are planning the holiday parties. This means you'll be spending a lot of time in the kitchen. Maybe you are wishing that did the kitchen remodeling project. But a large scale kitchen remodel can be wildly expensive. You can have a kitchen facelift before the holidays. How?

Angie’s List has five simple kitchen updates to help cut down on those remodeling costs.

1. Remodel kitchen cabinets and shelves: Obtaining a completely new set of cabinets can be very expensive, but a good way to save money is to remodel the cabinets and shelves, and paint or reface the cabinets. Homeowners can hire a kitchen remodeling contractor to update, not replace, cabinets and shelves inexpensively. Painting or refacing the outside of the cabinets is an aesthetically pleasing idea.

2. Install new countertops: installing a new granite countertop, or some other updated counter top really changes the look and feel of a kitchen.

3. Update the faucets: A new kitchen faucet is a small addition, but it can change the look of a kitchen, making it appear more modern or refined.

4. Install new lighting: Lights that are too bright can give the kitchen a glaring, unfriendly look. Light that is too soft can make it hard to work. You may want to consider installing several types of lights, including a light over the sink, over the stove, and perhaps a chandelier or wall sconce.

5. Add a garbage disposal or trash compactor: These appliances are relatively inexpensive and can be installed by most home builders. However, they can go a long way in making a kitchen more modern and practical.
