Need A Countertop Replacement? Try Soapstone

Joseph Coupal - Friday, October 29, 2010

Soapstone - a form of metamorphic rock containing magnesium, dolomite and talc. It actually is called soapstone because touching its surface produces a tactile sensation that is remarkably similar to that of a dry bar of soap. Geologically, it is related to marble, which has long been valued as a surface in homes and buildings dating back to the Hellenistic Period. Unlike marble however, soapstone countertops are easier to care for and cost less than marble surfaces.

Why should you consider soapstone countertops? If you know a great deal of cooking, you no doubt are aware of the kind of abuse that countertops must endure, especially when it comes to stains. And if you don’t have a chopping board, then that can put a lot of strain onto your countertops.  In fact, soapstone - unlike its geologic cousin, marble - is chemically inert, and will not react with acidic nor alkaline substances. What this means is that virtually nothing you spill on it will cause permanent staining - simply wipe it off or remove it from the surface with a bit of fine sandpaper, and it's good as new!

Soapstone countertops also offer great aesthetic value; it is what is known as schist, meaning it has a grained appearance like wood and marble. There are many different colors, types and treatments for soapstone countertops; a nice thing about soapstone is that you will have few problems finding a type that will blend in nicely with any color scheme or décor. Soapstone offers versatility, durability, ease of care and a unique kind of beauty. Soapstone countertops are one of the best and ultimately, most economical ways to upgrade your kitchen; check out the many options available today!

For Cabinet Renovations: Hire The Professionals

Joseph Coupal - Tuesday, October 19, 2010

Whether you are aspiring to renovate your kitchen for the purpose of attracting potential buyers to purchase your home or you have a kitchen that needs some work to become more user-friendly for your own ends, it can be well worth your while to hire a professional to assist you in your endeavor and that is where we can come in.

Doing kitchen renovations on your own may seem like a cheaper way to get the same result from your project, but it's likely that your experience in renovations isn't very extensive; even if you have done some renovations in the past, it's unlikely that you have much experiences with specifically renovating kitchens which often have specific issues that can need to be taken care of.

Working with the professionals can help you not only make a plan that encompasses all the elements that you'd like to have in your kitchen, but we can also help you realize what about your plan works or doesn't work in the amount of space that you have, the style of your home, and the amount of money that you want to work with. While hiring someone else to do a job for you does add an expense to your project it can help you create a much more polished end product as a result.

If you're planning on renovating your kitchen for the purpose of making your home more appealing to buyers and don't want to invest more than your return would be, make sure that you let us know; it is easy to make your kitchen stand out with its new-found awesomeness but you might not actually see as big a return on your investment unless you plan accordingly. Some upgrades to a home result in very little return even though they significantly improve a home.

Don't be afraid to be frank us about your likes and dislikes, what you can afford, and the purpose of your renovation. The more honest and upfront that you can be about the whole project, the happier you will be when it's all said and done. Feel free to contact us for more information on how you can improve your kitchen with just a little cabinet refinishing.

Damaged Countertops? Let The Professionals Take Care Of It

Joseph Coupal - Thursday, October 14, 2010

Anytime you spend a lot of money on something only to have it break down on you, it usually will send you into a tizzy. Well if it is a solid surface counter top then there is no reason to freak out. One of the big selling points for solid surface counter tops is the fact that they can be repaired if they are scratched, cracked, chipped, burnt or anything else. As long as your counter top has not been ground into a pile of powder or confetti, it can be repaired.

Now we have actually seen forums or other do-it-yourself repair things saying how you can fix a crack with super glue or some new fantastic resin that you can simply pour on the crack and then sand it down and then it's fixed. Well, coming from the professionals, that simply isn’t true.

Other than simple scratch removal and some stain removal, there is no such thing as a homeowner doing a real, legitimate, invisible, beautiful repair on their own solid surface counter top. It's just not going to happen. That is one big myth that can be busted in the blink of an eye. Just ask anyone who has been unfortunate enough to take this advice. Most of the time when sites try to sell a powerful resin or liquid to fill into the crack then sand it down, it feels as though it’s filled but looks unprofessional. Not only that but numerous times have the “sealant” been raised out after 6 months of being used.

In the event that it doesn't look awful at first, just hold on, it will. It will start to change colors, usually it goes darker. Your once beautiful counter tops now look like something that you salvaged from some old hotel or something. The good thing is, even if you are not qualified to repair your own counter top, we are. We specialize in refinishing and refurnishing and would be glad to repair your counter top to look brand new, guaranteed. If you have any questions or concerns please contact us and we'll be happy to help.
