Damaged Countertops? Let The Professionals Take Care Of It

Joseph Coupal - Thursday, October 14, 2010

Anytime you spend a lot of money on something only to have it break down on you, it usually will send you into a tizzy. Well if it is a solid surface counter top then there is no reason to freak out. One of the big selling points for solid surface counter tops is the fact that they can be repaired if they are scratched, cracked, chipped, burnt or anything else. As long as your counter top has not been ground into a pile of powder or confetti, it can be repaired.

Now we have actually seen forums or other do-it-yourself repair things saying how you can fix a crack with super glue or some new fantastic resin that you can simply pour on the crack and then sand it down and then it's fixed. Well, coming from the professionals, that simply isn’t true.

Other than simple scratch removal and some stain removal, there is no such thing as a homeowner doing a real, legitimate, invisible, beautiful repair on their own solid surface counter top. It's just not going to happen. That is one big myth that can be busted in the blink of an eye. Just ask anyone who has been unfortunate enough to take this advice. Most of the time when sites try to sell a powerful resin or liquid to fill into the crack then sand it down, it feels as though it’s filled but looks unprofessional. Not only that but numerous times have the “sealant” been raised out after 6 months of being used.

In the event that it doesn't look awful at first, just hold on, it will. It will start to change colors, usually it goes darker. Your once beautiful counter tops now look like something that you salvaged from some old hotel or something. The good thing is, even if you are not qualified to repair your own counter top, we are. We specialize in refinishing and refurnishing and would be glad to repair your counter top to look brand new, guaranteed. If you have any questions or concerns please contact us and we'll be happy to help.

Kitchen Countertop Replacement – The Value Home Renovation

Joseph Coupal - Tuesday, September 14, 2010

Most homeowners when queried about home renovation priorities will state their preference for either remodeling the kitchen or bathroom. The professionals at Kenneth C Lewis Cabinet Refinishing and real estate professionals alike know that the kitchen and the bathroom make the biggest impression on buyers.  House presenters also know that making simple changes to either area can add much needed value to a seller's price.

If you are going to modify the kitchen, and you cannot do it all, start with the countertops. This will give you the most valued return on investment.  Countertops come in a variety of materials, including laminate, solid surface, quartz, and natural stone. Make a simple and honest assessment of your kitchen.  If you think your countertops look old or drab, those who visit your home think the same thing.  Realize that replacing countertops does more than simply give a new look and feel to your counters.  Your new countertops will flow with the cupboards, floor, and appliances.

Countertop remodeling is a bigger chore than most people realize. Typically, this involves the removal of the existing surface, disposal of old items, plumbing disconnect and reconnection, electrical work, color selection, sink and faucet selection, and more depending on the scope of your project. Is the thought of leaving this to the pros a welcome one?

For most people, the idea of new kitchen countertops is an exciting idea. They can spruce up a home, giving it the attractive feel of a new dwelling. This does not even have to be an exotic material, since any change will bring about a sense of anticipation and newness.  Let's plan it together.
