Granite Countertops Finish First in Consumer Reports Testing

Joseph Coupal - Tuesday, August 02, 2011

Countertop replacement is usually the best option when totally changing or remodeling your kitchen.

A beautiful countertop can really stand out in a kitchen. Consumer Reports tested 14 different countertop materials like granite and quartz, recycled glass, bamboo and soapstone. They applied things like tomato sauce and grape juice and let them sit overnight.

The bamboo surfaces stained badly.

They also tested the counters for heat, by placing a 400 degree pot on them: the bamboo counters scorched, and 2 recycled glass countertops cracked within 12 minutes.

When all the tests were done, quartz and granite countertops came out on top!

Kenneth C Lewis uses granite, corian, cambria quartz and other quality materials for replacing existing countertops.

Damaged Countertops? Let The Professionals Take Care Of It

Joseph Coupal - Thursday, October 14, 2010

Anytime you spend a lot of money on something only to have it break down on you, it usually will send you into a tizzy. Well if it is a solid surface counter top then there is no reason to freak out. One of the big selling points for solid surface counter tops is the fact that they can be repaired if they are scratched, cracked, chipped, burnt or anything else. As long as your counter top has not been ground into a pile of powder or confetti, it can be repaired.

Now we have actually seen forums or other do-it-yourself repair things saying how you can fix a crack with super glue or some new fantastic resin that you can simply pour on the crack and then sand it down and then it's fixed. Well, coming from the professionals, that simply isn’t true.

Other than simple scratch removal and some stain removal, there is no such thing as a homeowner doing a real, legitimate, invisible, beautiful repair on their own solid surface counter top. It's just not going to happen. That is one big myth that can be busted in the blink of an eye. Just ask anyone who has been unfortunate enough to take this advice. Most of the time when sites try to sell a powerful resin or liquid to fill into the crack then sand it down, it feels as though it’s filled but looks unprofessional. Not only that but numerous times have the “sealant” been raised out after 6 months of being used.

In the event that it doesn't look awful at first, just hold on, it will. It will start to change colors, usually it goes darker. Your once beautiful counter tops now look like something that you salvaged from some old hotel or something. The good thing is, even if you are not qualified to repair your own counter top, we are. We specialize in refinishing and refurnishing and would be glad to repair your counter top to look brand new, guaranteed. If you have any questions or concerns please contact us and we'll be happy to help.

Benefits of Corian Countertops

Joseph Coupal - Friday, July 02, 2010

Corian? What kind of countertop is that? Well at Kenneth C Lewis we only use the finest quality materials for our countertops, and corian is one of them. A brief history lesson entails; DuPont developed Corian, seeking to provide a solid, non-porous surface. It was introduced into the market in 1967 and it boomed instantly, because of its diverse use and easy maintenance.  Corian is a blend of natural materials and pure acrylic polymers. Some of the newer Corian countertops may offer a blend of polyester materials. Polyester is a more popular component for design, because it offers richer color options, however the durability compared to acrylic is far less. Because they are non-porous, Corian countertops are highly resilient to stains and high heat and are easy to clean.

The design and durability of Corian countertops make maintaining them easy. Just soapy water and ammonia-based products are the best to keep your Corian looking clean and new. Even scratches can be easily repaired with light sanding. Since it is made out of 100 percent acrylic-based material, it has a long-lasting beauty and superior strength. And it won't fade in the sunlight. The material's long history of use attests to its durability and help to sustain its positive characteristics and benefits.

A material this good has to be expensive right? Wrong. Corian is more affordable and provides greater beauty than laminate countertops, with less maintenance and repairs over the life of your kitchen design. Another benefit of Corian countertops is that they can be used outdoors and they do not pit, weather or lose their polished finish as stone does. So let Kenneth C. Lewis install your new Corian countertop today!
